Nick Carter Gives Us The Relationship Anthem We All Need With “Never Break My Heart”

I had to take my time with this one. I needed to let it simmer and really think about this because this song has a lot going on with it and I wanted to make sure I had all my thoughts together. I didn’t want to rush.

Because honestly, Nick keeps on surprising me.

I have a post in progress (expect it sooner than Nick’s soon) all about Nick’s diversity as a musician because if you just look at his last three singles alone?  It’s crazy how much it shows. Three songs is enough of an example. But in this case, Never Break My Heart (Not Again) reminds me personally, so much of Not The Other Guy, from his I’m Taking Off album. It sits firmly within the r&b dance genre  that embodied that alnum so well. It’s a well produced song with touches of autotune at the right parts that don’t take away from Nick’s biggest strength, his power vocals. I can only imagine what this song will become when performed live as I fully expect him to add it to the next leg of the Who I Am Tour which picks back up in Latin America next month.

The way it starts versus what the song itself becomes comes out of left field. The song starts off as a slow almost sexy groove and I’ll admit I expected it to stay that way. Instead as it builds up into bridge and picks up the pace, you can almost hear the pain reflected from past relationships in his vocals as it soars along with the guitar into a full on anthem. This song is an earworm. It only took two listens to get stuck in my head. And while I can go into the music aspects, I more want to go into what this song is making me feel. I feel fired up. I feel energetic. It makes me want to stand up and say no more!

The lyrics are the kind anyone can relate to, who hasn’t had a relationship gone wrong? Nick made a career off the kind of love songs that hit us down deep and this new one is no exception. It’s something you’ll want to sing at the top of your lungs back at him at a future show.

I can easily see why not only Nick but the producers who worked along side him were so ready for this song to release. The song goes up, it goes down, it goes fast, it goes slow, just like relationships. It’s almost like a relationship morphed into a melody. There’s an eagerness and determination not just in the music but in the vocals themselves. He puts it all into this song. Nick’s passion really can be heard here as you listen. You won’t hurt him again, you won’t be allowed to and he won’t stand for it. He’s determined not take it anymore. Not again.

And while the lyrics may in this case refer to love and relationships…

Well, that feeling can apply to so much more.

Once again, Nick shows e’ll keep coming back. He’ll keep fighting. He’ll keep doing what he loves and we’ll be here for the ride. This song is absolutely worth the listen. If we do get that album in 2024, I’m fascinated to see the direction it takes given all the twists and turns he’s given us with these singles so far in 2023.
