Tonight Was Made For Us – Nick Carter’s Newest Single Is One Of Light and Hope

Now I’ve heard this song live before, twice as he’s been performing it on his Who I Am tour

But hearing it in it’s recorded form gives another life to it. Seeing the lyric video gives yet another layer. Now Nick’s said from the start that this was going to be a tribute to the fans, a dedication, a love song to those who have stuck around and have been all this time. And like it or not, we can all admit we’ve had our ups and downs. But that’s the nice thing about Nick. He’s always looking forward, he’s always trying to create, he’s never pausing or letting anything that drags him down. If Nick Carter is nothing else, he’s a fighter.

In this retro styled upbeat single, I think that comes through immediately. it’s the kind of song that hypes you up at the crux of a classic eighties movie. It’s that song that plays while the heroes get ready to defeat whatever battle lies ahead. And if I’m being completely frank, I think that’s a song we all need right now. The world can be hard and feel like nothing will change. Sometimes, in fandom…it can feel like that too. Especially within the past year. This song, is this light that reminds us it will get better. We will get through it all. Together. Nick believes it. And you know what? Damn it. I know it.

We know it.

Hold on and make me believe
I
n a world that never was
Hold on and take me cause baby
Tonight was made for us

We’re flying over the angels
And dancing to the edge of the night
Hold on and make me believe
In a world that never was
Made for us

We’re flying over the angels
And dancing to the edge of the night
You’ve given all of your halos
And without you I can’t survive

When you think about the fact that Nick chose to dedicate this to all the fans, it makes you look at the lyrics a little closer. I’ve played it a few times now, to analyze it as much as I can. And it just reminds me of how many times he’s said over the years how he doesn’t think he would’ve gotten this far without us. One time he said in a dm to a fan that in his darkest times, fans were his light. Those last two lines I quoted above? I really do think we’re all leaning on each other throughout it all and that’s beautiful. Everyone needs a Nick Carter in their fandom lives. Someone who’s passionate, someone who cares, someone who never takes any of it for granted. He’s said in countless interviews that when he’s on stage he’s performing like it’s the last time, because you never know when that day might be. That’s the energy that surges throughout this song.

Speaking of that energy, and to allow myself to refocus a little bit more on the song itself, it’s been awhile since we’ve gotten a truly upbeat song from Nick on a solo level. 19 in 99 was the last time, and while I’ve loved every single song we’ve gotten from Nick since? It’s really nice to get a song you can sing at the top of your lungs while driving down the highway with your friends – likely to yet another concert. The energy is infectious, just like the very boybander performing it.

The lyric video will have you smiling all throughout with the fan submissions he had us submitting back in September. It’s cheesy but in the purest way and in absolutely typical Nick fashion. It also makes me highly curious about what we should be expecting for the music video. It showcases who Nick is, and it showcases who we are, as fans too. That love between fan and artist that makes fandom so damn special.

Thank you Nick.
Thank you for being you.
Thank you for this tribute.
Thank you for the music.
Thank you for everything.
