Nick Carter Truly Shows Off Who He Is On His New Tour

Fun fact, I haven’t seen a Nick Carter solo project tour since 2014.

It happens, you know? Life got in the way during his All American tour which was his last true solo outing. He’s had side projects since, like the After Party shows but those included AJ and no solo material so that wouldn’t really count. So when I say I was excited to spend my birthday weekend traveling literally across the country to see him in Nashville on October 7th, I’m not kidding.  We’d seen his teasers, he’d given us previews of what to expect but if I’m being completely honest, you never truly know what to expect from him at a solo show until you’re actually there. I have an overactive imagination, it’s why I’m a fan of writing, suffice to say my ideas were all over the place as to what we were really going to get. Which side of Nick were we getting this tour? He has so many, and with the name of the tour being Who I Am, you can’t help but wonder, you know?

He blew past any expectations I had.

So let’s start with VIP. If you’re going to a show and you’ve been debating on this? I say take the plunge. He used it as a real soundcheck as as someone who’s a massive music nerd and a fan of the process, it added a little unexpected extra. This wasn’t a soundcheck party, this was an actual legitimate soundcheck. He was testing ideas, going over things with the band on certain songs like Superman. We got four songs out of him, before he moved on to the questions. Now Nick’s choosing for himself who can ask. He did something similar during the Nick and Knight tour where he’d point at fans and let them ask away. I lost count of how many questions he did. Mainly because his security Mike, had to come on stage and remind Nick he still needed to take photos. Otherwise he would’ve kept going. And isn’t that just like Nick? Having too much fun on stage with fans that he forgets he still has other stuff he needs to do?

On to the show.

Nick’s channeling his inner 80’s star almost immediately the second he’s on stage with his white suit, sunglasses and teal shirt. I wondered if I traveled back in time for a second. The setlist is carefully crafted, as Nick does say music can say a lot for you. Not a single song is on there by chance. Now a note, many people have been asking for a full setlist. Thing is, Nick’s been changing up songs. He did Help Me in Roanoke, which he didn’t do in Nashville, for example. It’s something he said during the soundcheck he wanted to do, was mix up the setlist in certain cities. But one of the songs I thought he pulled off incredibly well was actually a cover – Private Eyes. We got to see 80’s Movie live for the first time, and watch as he sings his heartbreaking number Hurts To Love You. He mixes in songs with one another to give a unique spin. He’s putting his all into his performance and feeding off the energy of the crowd in a way that’s so familiar.

Because that’s who Nick Carter is. He’s a passionate musican who loves his craft, who loves being able to express himself whether it’s through the music he’s made as a solo artist, music he’s made as part of the Backstreet Boys, or music that has simply influenced him since he was a child. He’s someone who loves the fans, someone who truly appreciates the support that refuses to ever go anywhere. As the crowd screamed to him during the show, it’s a truth that will never go away –  we got you Nick. He doesn’t take advantage of that, not even for a moment. He debuts the upcoming single that he said he plans to release in a few weeks as a dedication to the fans themselves, Made For Us. Again, he loves his fans and knows exactly how important that love and support actually is, and wants to make sure we know that too.

This is “Made For Us”, the song he’s dedicating to the fans, the one he’s making the special music video for. He said to expect it in the next few weeks. #nickcarter #foryou #backstreetboys #bsbtok #millennial #newmusic @Nick Carter

All of this on stage serves to remind us all of the Nick we know and love. A little bit of a nerd, someone who’s completely unapologetic about what makes him happy and the things he loves. Someone who’s full of energy and passion in a way only a few artists truly are. A man who was blessed with talent and loves sharing it with the world. That’s just who Nick is, and I know I speak for all of us when I say I wouldn’t change a thing about him. That’s what makes this show so unique. It’s 100% pure Nick concentrate, no subtitutions. He’s got layers and he shows them off on this tour – the man, the father, the music lover, the Backstreet Boy…all in one night.

If you can go, you won’t regret it.

  2. I was at the NASHVILLE SHOW TOO!!! I wish I’d known, I would have loved to meet you finally! I was actually in the balcony box seat to your right. Right above where he was coming out from backstage. It was the first time I’ve ever gotten to see him live in a solo show and he definitely didn’t disappoint. I was in tears at one point up there and would absolutely love to see him again soon. That was EVERYTHING!!!
