Nick forever keeps us on our toes. Like seriously.
Nothing he does is ever the same as the last thing he did and I think that’s one of my favorite things about being a fan of him as a solo artist. This would’ve come sooner but he sent out a pretty fandom breaking tweet less than a week ago. If you haven’t seen it yet, please stop what you’re doing and go read what he’s linked there first.

Then you can come back and read me going on about his new song. The new song got a little lost in the shuffle of the “kaos” Nick unleased last week. But that’s okay, that’s why you have me here to get y’all back into the swing of things. Released on May 4th, this song is a collaboration Nick decided to do with RockIt music. They do video game themed tracks, and music for video games themselves. Pretty easy to see why this was right up his alley, am I right? “So Sweet” however, is part of a YouTube series called the “The Amazing Digital Circus”. On an Instagram live Nick said he discovered them in part because of his son, which is adorable.
Listening to the song it’s definitely that feels very Nick yet doesn’t at the same time. I know that sounds weird. But Nick while a man of many genres hadn’t done anything quite like this before. This feels retro but also rock influenced and I have to agree with Nick himself who said during the live that it felt almost inspired by Linkin Park. Which as someone who felt like Hybrid Theory was part of her high school soundtrack, I get what he’s getting at. It’s a blending of genres like Nick himself. There’s a techno pop feel to the melody, there’s a small rap and you can almost feel the line it dances on in terms of a rock vibe.
Nick talked about bringing them on stage because one of his tour stops goes right near where his collaborator lives. I’d actually be really interested to see this live. I think it’d bring yet another element to what I feel like is a very surreal song. Nick’s vocals are subdued and of coursed layered over and produced but that’s a bit necessary here. He’s talked about working with them again in the future and I’m highly curious to see what other songs would come out of it. Based on this song alone, I think we’d like it. Though quietly Nick also laid some vocals down on a song called “Smurf” under the pseudonym NCX.
In the end my favorite thing about Nick as a solo artist is that he’s willing to try new things, he’ll work with anyone he finds to be interesting or creative. In this case, he contacted them. He wasn’t in this because he wanted to be trendy or do whatever the fickle music industry decided is the flavor of the moment. Nope. He did this for the passion of it all. That’s what makes Nick an artist.
I hope if you haven’t already, you check it out! Yeah, it’s different but that’s what makes it as good as it is. Also listening to Nick sing take me to the candy shop, well, didn’t know I needed that in my life till now.
